OTS 001: Doug Jones, UCPS Director of Athletics

Listen to the Episode Below

A conversation with Doug Jones, the UCPS Director of Athletics and “the face” of Union County High School Athletics. Jones’ twenty-nine years of teaching and coaching experience brings a level knowledge and expertise to his role that few can match anywhere in the state of North Carolina. Jones loves his job, and that is evident to anyone that has a kid playing a high school sport in Union County as he is in attendance at a great number of sporting events throughout the school year. I believe you will “hear” that love and dedication to his role in this interview.

  • What a 4th grade classroom in Walter Bickett and the Director of Athletics office have in common.
  • The deep connection that Doug Jones has with sports and Union County.
  • The Director of Athletics does not hire or fire football coaches.
  • UCPS one of the first school systems in the state to have a unique partnership with a local hospital.
  • Doug Jones has taught an NFL draft pick
