Sun Valley’s season ended last night at home with a 59-55 overtime loss to Ben L. Smith in the 1st round of the 3A NCHSAA playoffs.
Sun Valley’s Justin Morton led all Spartan scorers with 14 points. Morton, the junior point guard, shot 60% from 3-point range (3-5, 9pts).
The Spartans trailed for most of the game hanging close to Smith as they battled to find a rhythm and consistent shooting stroke. With the clock ticking down under 15 seconds in the 4th quarter and trailing by two, it appeared the Spartans tenacity would payoff.
Teshaun Walker, Sun Valley’s junior guard, came up with a beauty of a steal and layup with ten-seconds in regulation that tied the game at 50, forcing the game into overtime.
Unfortunately, Sun Valley couldn’t capitalize on Walker’s turnover in the extra period. The Spartans finish their season with a 15-10 overall record.
