David Johnson has resigned from his position as head coach of the Cuthbertson football program citing family as the reason for his decision.
Johnson and his wife had their first child born in October right in the middle of the football season. The birth of a newborn puts work and life into perspective especially for a full-time history teacher who devotes time to coaching a varsity football program.
Johnson was the second football coach in school history taking over the reins in 2013 after Mike Roark stepped down.
During his tenure as head coach, Johnson propelled the Cavalier program to its first winning season in 2014 finishing 11-4 and reaching the 3AA state semifinals losing in a classic to rival Weddington in the final 24 seconds of the game.
Johnson led Cuthbertson to five postseason trips in his six years, won coach of the year in 2014 and built a program that was respected area-wide.
