Weddington defeated Porter Ridge, 28-12 to move to 2-0 on the season. It was an impressive display of tough, disciplined football that should put their opponents in the Carolina Conference on notice.
The first two Porter Ridge drives stalled in the red zone resulting in two field goals. Credit a stout Warrior defense that was on point from the opening kickoff.
The tough Weddington “D” bought some time for an offense that was sluggish in the first quarter and a half.
That all changed when Weddington QB Whitner Litton first hit James Shipley over the middle for a touchdown at 2:57 of the second quarter. Less than two minutes later Litton connected with Will Shipley who dashed into the end zone for the first of his two scores in the game giving the Warriors a 14-6 halftime lead. The Warriors never looked back.
After the game, I caught up with Weddington’s Whitner Litton, Will Shipley, and Coach Andy Capone to discuss their first home win of the season.
