Traditionally the first Wednesday in February is National Signing Day, a day that many high school athletes strive for and point to when asked about the countless extra hours dedicated to fine-tuning their athletic pursuits and academic prowess in the classroom. The day can be a life-changing event for the student-athlete and their family.

On National Signing Day a high school senior can sign a binding letter of intent for a collegiate sport at a member NCAA school. Congratulations to all the student-athletes that signed yesterday and imparticular to the football players that I have followed over their high school career.

It was with admiration and amazement that I watched many of you persevere through the merciless heat of summer practices to see the fruits of your labor on Friday nights celebrating dramatic wins and heartbreaking losses.

So it’s with great pleasure that I now see you all relishing in your great achievement and wish you nothing but the best as you move on to a bigger stage at the next level. Keep working toward whatever makes you happy and while disappointment and failure might come your way, don’t succumb, continue to learn and work hard, and you will receive just rewards.

Congratulations to our county football players that signed yesterday.
