Weddington High School announced on Monday, December 11, that Tim Carson is retiring as head football coach and physical education teacher on January 31.

Carson coached for 29 years, including the last seven years at Weddington where he compiled a 75-23 record, three Southern Carolina Conference titles and led the Warriors to two state championship appearances and the 2016 3AA state championship. Carson’s overall head coaching record (Parkwood & Weddington) is 108-79.

Tim Carson will now return to his home state of South Carolina and the county he grew up in, Oconee County, to become the head football coach at West-Oak High School in Westminster, South Carolina.

Carson’s impact on the Weddington football program and the players he coached and mentored is undeniable. All you have to do is read the comments on social media from parents and current and former players to understand the positive influence he had on all of them.

On the football field and especially playing at home, Carson and his teams imposed their will. The numbers are impressive:

* 40-5 in home games
* Undefeated at home in playoffs (9-0)
* 16 shutout victories (3 in the playoffs)
* 7-3 against 4A schools

Congratulations to Coach Carson and his family.  We wish you all the success and happiness at West Oak High.
