Charlotte Catholic ended Weddington’s football season on Friday night with a resounding 42-7 defeat of the Warriors in the third round of the 3A playoffs.
Weddington wraps up their 2017 campaign at 10-4 after winning the 3AA State Championship last year with a 13-3 record.
This season the Warriors saw the emergence of a more than capable quarterback in junior Whitner Litton who was the county’s leading passer during the regular season.
Max Brimigion followed up a strong sophomore season with an even better junior year as the county’s top wide receiver and the team’s single-season receiving record holder.
As a freshman, Will Shipley rushed for over 600 yards and scored five touchdowns, playing more like an upperclassman as the season progressed.
As a final note to the season, one that I have repeated more than a few times on Twitter and other social media outlets; this Weddington season was quite remarkable considering the team broke summer camp with 30 players including five returning seniors.
Let that sink in for a minute, 30 players to start a football season in 3A ball. Hats off once again to Coach Carson, his staff and the Warrior football players on an incredible season.
I want to thank Ashleigh Mock for braving the low temps and lack of real estate on the visitor’s sideline at Catholic’s Keffer Stadium to capture the fantastic cover shot and photos below.
