Sun Valley played its last home game of the season and made the most of it defeating Cuthbertson 49-14 in the second round of the playoffs.

The win moves the 10-3 Spartans onto the third round for the first time since 2012.

Sun Valley was led by the connection of quarterback Sam Howell to wide receiver Anthony Marple. The two hooked up four weeks ago against Cuthbertson for a total of 149 yards and four touchdowns and on Friday night connected seven times for 173 yards including one 62-yard score.

Howell finished the night 16 of 26 for 291 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensively, Christian Joe, the Spartans junior defensive back notched an interception that led to a touchdown and two sacks.

Cuthbertson wraps up their season at 5-8.

Sun Valley will travel to Mt. Tabor (11-2) on Friday, Nov. 24 in the 3AA state quarterfinals.
