In defeating Marvin Ridge 45-35 on Friday night, Sun Valley did something they haven’t done since 2012, win a playoff game. It was a well-played game on both sides and lived up to the first round playoff setting.
Sun Valley’s quarterback Sam Howell led all rushers with 170 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns including the game-winning 5-yard run on a 4th-and- 2. Howell was 15-for-26 in the air for 242 yards and three TDs.
Bryce McClain, the senior quarterback for Marvin Ridge, finished 12-for-23 for 235 yards and three touchdowns and one rushing TD.
Marvin Ridge ends their season losing their last two games and finishing 10-2.
Next up for Sun Valley (9-3) is a second-round playoff matchup against conference and county rival, Cuthbertson (5-7) and the Spartans will once again look to do something they have not done in awhile, win their first home playoff game in 6 years.
