As the NCHSAA playoff postseason commences, this is the perfect time to acknowledge the individual achievements of some of UnioNCounty Football’s best players.
Ishod Finger, Metrolina Christian senior running back takes the top spot in the three major rushing categories; yards (2,478), attempts/carries (238) and yards per carry (10.4).
Finger broke the county’s single-season rushing record during the last game of Metrolina Christian’s regular season. Although his team lost their playoff game last week, Ishod provided us with a memorable season. Check out Ishod’s numbers here along with the other great running backs that finished atop the rushing leaderboards.
Weddington’s Max Brimigion and Cuthbertson’s Josh Blocker took the top spots in the three receiving categories. Blocker led in receptions with 54 and will be looking to add to that number as Cuthbertson enters the playoffs with their first game against Alexander Central.
Brimigion set the Weddington single-season record for receiving yards, and that was enough to take the county’s top spot in receiving yards (1,177) as well as receiving yards per catch (22.2). Brimigion and his Warriors will host Hickory in first round playoff action. Click here to see Max and Josh’s numbers along with the top receivers in the county.
Three quarterback categories led by three different QBs. Junior Whitner Litton, Weddington’s starting quarterback, broke the school’s single-season passing record and wrapped up the regular season throwing for more yards (2,373) than any other county QB.
Angel Gonzalez started the season as Metrolina Christian’s back up quarterback, but after starter Myles Saxton went down with an injury, Gonzalez made an immediate positive impact. The sophomore QB led the county in passing percentage (65.2).
Sun Valley’s D1 prospect, Sam Howell rebounded after a midseason shoulder sprain to take the QB Rating category (107.7) and will hope to lead his Spartans deep into postseason play.
