Add East Mecklenburg to Weddington’s 4A conquests this season after the Warriors defeated the Eagles, 30-14. Weddington now stands at 3-0, and all three wins have been against 4A competition. Pretty impressive for a team dressing 32 players on the varsity squad.
Friday’s Warrior win was extra special because it came in a game designated as the Patriotism Bowl. The Bowl game started in 2012 was created to honor those lost on 9/11 and to raise awareness of citizenship, patriotism, and service.
Whitner Litton, Weddington’s junior quarterback, led the offense completing 19-of-28 passes for 251 yards and one touchdown. Litton also opened up the scoring with a one-yard TD run.
Warrior wide receiver, Max Brimigion continued his great start to the season hauling in one touchdown reception and on defense intercepting one pass.
Another one of the many Weddington players playing effectively on both sides of the ball and having an impact every Friday night is junior Eamon Murphy. Murphy scored twice on two short runs while also being one of the hardest hitting players on the Warrior defense.
Next up for Weddington is a road game against Crest, a traditional football powerhouse.
