Two facts from Forest Hills- Sun Valley game on Friday night.
Fact number one. Sun Valley defeated Forest Hills, 66-20.
Fact number two. Sun Valley’s Sam Howell is a great quarterback. I’m not breaking any news here, everyone knows it and deservedly so.
Forest Hills knows it, and on Friday night like most teams, they prepared for Howell’s arm and receivers first. It makes sense. The problem is that when under pressure or seeing a gap in front of him, #14 knows how to use his legs to take advantage of a mismatch, one of the key factors of a great quarterback.
Unfortunately, for Forest Hills, Howell’s legs took advantage often. The junior quarterback led all rushers in the game gaining 164 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.
As for Howell’s arm and the Sun Valley passing game? No need to worry, they were not ignored. Howell was 13-for-27 for 175 yards, and five touchdown passes.
You have to give Forest Hills credit. In bad weather, playing on the road, the 2A Yellow Jackets hung with the 3A Sun Valley in the first half.
Coach Cory Smith stacked the Jackets non-conference schedule with five 3A opponents. It’s tough medicine for the squad but one that could pay dividends once conference play begins.
Thanks to Cindy LeGrand and Chris Summerville for being on location at Sun Valley and providing us with these great shots.
