Parkwood Rebels: 2017 Season Preview

It was an offseason of changes for the Parkwood Rebels.

First, the NCHSAA finalized their realignment plans for 2017-2021. As a result, Parkwood moved from a 2A school to a 3A school.

Lynn Coble stepped down in early January after six years as head coach of the program. In March, Parkwood hired Tim Speakman as Coble's replacement.

Heading into 2017, the Rebels will face the challenges that change can present.

Parkwood's senior quarterback Eli Ackerman (5-11, 170) will lead the offense. Ackerman threw for 1,495 yards, and only one QB in the county had a better quarterback rating.

Jajuan (JJ) Benton a senior running back gained 862 yards last season on 185 carries. I expect the 5-foot-10, 170-pound back to have a breakout season for the Rebels.

Defensively, look to Seth Shimer to set the tone much like he did last season. Shimer (6-1, 215) finished third in the county in total tackles with 166.

Below, Coach Speakman provides a preview of his Parkwood Rebels.
