Weddington Takes Indoor

It came down to the final event, the 4x400 meter relay, as Chapel Hill and Marvin Ridge entered the event on even footing for the women’s championship. The Tiger relay team nabbed a second place finish, posting a time of 4:13.68 and Marvin Ridge slid in just behind them in third at 4:17.23. That proved to be the margin of victory on the night as the Tigers captured their first indoor track championship 62-60, stopping Marvin Ridge’s bid for a third consecutive crown.

Chapel Hill’s distance runners carried them, Tiger’s Senior Anna Passannante won the 1000 Meter, posting a time of 2:58.37, the only sub-3-minute time in the women’s event. Tiger Sophomore Anna Stouffer also earned points in the 1000 finishing in sixth.

In the 1600, Chapel Hill Sophomore Katherine Dokholyan led the way for the Tigers with a second place finish. Alexa King from Marvin Ridge won the event with a time of 5:12.10, but Marija Cook from Chapel Hill placed third and teammate Clare McNamara finished sixth giving the Tigers 17 points in the event.

The Tigers picked up third, fourth and fifth place finishes in the 3200 meter event, as Katherine Dokholyan, Cook and Grace Tate finished in the points. Anna Vess of A.C. Reynolds was the 3200 meter champion.

West Carteret finished in third with 57 points. Mackenzie Whitaker led the way for West, winning the Long Jump clearing 5.44m. She also placed second in the Triple Jump striding 10.88m, only finishing behind SouthernGuilford’s Imani Bennett who won with a distance of 11.60m.

On the Men’s side, Weddington captured the team crown edging West Rowan 58-51. Weddington Senior Mitchell Resor captured the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:20.20. His teammate, Matthew Conner finished third in the event with a time of 4:23.65.

Resor also brought home the 1000 meter championship, finishing in a time of 2:35.11, just ahead of Noah Shore from Asheville who clocked 2:35.42. Resor also anchored the second place 4x800 Meter Relay which finished with a time of 8:02.95, just behind Asheville who won the event with a time of 8:01.84.

Indoor track championships continue tomorrow with the 1A/2A Championship as well as the 4A Championship at the JDL Fast Track Facility in Winston-Salem.
