Earlier today, Cory Smith, the head coach of the Forest Hills, resigned after four years of leading the Yellow Jackets. Before his head coaching responsibilities, Smith served as an assistant under HC John Lowery.

Over his four years at the helm, Smith's Jackets were 11-34.

Smith was a former local high school quarterback at Sun Valley High School who led the Spartans in his senior year to a 10-4 season and an appearance in the state quarterfinals. Smith graduated in 2007 and went on play college ball at UNC-Pembroke.

Personally, Coach Smith was always more than cooperative and giving of his time with me while covering his team during his tenure.  Quick-witted and always good for a  verbal jab, I'll miss him during my summer visits with the team.

The search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
