Conner Purser is the workhorse running back in the Piedmont Panther offense. The rising senior rushed for 1,228 yards and thirteen touchdowns last season with little fanfare.
Purser finished fourth in county rushing yards last season behind familiar names like Will Shipley, Sam Howell, and Monroe's Jah'Twan Stafford.
What's impressive is that the three kids finishing ahead of Purser play in offenses that were more diverse in play selection. When Conner Purser was on the field last year, most defenses focused on stopping him.
Despite the defensive attention, he still averaged 5.7 yards per carry and racked up substantial offensive numbers.
This year under new Piedmont head coach, Jon Castator, the pass will be in play. Castator expects Purser to continue to see the ball not only as a running back but as a weapon in the passing game.
