On June 19, Cuthbertson traveled up to Porter Ridge for an early evening 7v7 competition.
It was the first competition for the Cavaliers under first-year head coach, Trey Kavanaugh, at 26-years old, the youngest HC in Union County.
Cutty lost two-year starting QB Davis Walker to graduation, so the Cavs rotated three QB's (Evan Bernard, Myles Teasley, and Louie Deiulio) during the evening session with rising juniors Bernard and Teasley getting the bulk of the snaps.
Porter Ridge, led by Michael Hertz, is entering his fourth year as head coach of the Pirates. Under his tenure, PR is 25-15 and played in last year's 4A regional final losing to East Forsyth, 32-14.
The Pirates too lost their starting QB, Grayson McCall, a three-year starter, and his backup, Mason Cox, is a more than ready rising senior ready to take over the position in 2019.
It was a lively session and everything you would expect from a 7v7 with displays of exceptional athletic ability from both teams and both sides of the ball.
