Marvin Ridge moved to 4-0 on the season with their Friday night 31-19 defeat of Parkland High School.
Marvin Ridge can thank strong, balanced play on both sides of the ball for their early success.
Bryce McClain, the Mavs senior quarterback, has caught the eye of many observers in the area. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound dual-threat QB continued to impress on Friday night completing 12-of-23 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns. McClain also rushed 12 times for 105 yards including a 25-yard touchdown run.
Defensively through four games, the Mavericks are holding opponents to 13 points per game.
On Friday night, Caleb Deveaux was also a dual threat, from both sides of the ball. At his tailback position, the senior rushed for 89 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown. On defense, playing at the linebacker position, the 6-foot-1, 207-pound Derveaux notched 12 total tackles and two sacks.
The Mavericks are off to their best start since 2011 and the only thing standing in their way this week is a bye week before heading into conference play.
