Marvin Ridge has put everyone on watch. The Mavericks 3-0 start has been impressive with two convincing road wins and a defense that comes to play every Friday night.
The Mavs are led defensively by senior defensive lineman Cole Hopkins (6-3, 220) who currently leads the county in sacks with six. Junior linebacker, Will Smith (5-9, 190) leads the team in total tackles with 22.
Not to be overlooked is the Mavericks offensive squad currently averaging a little over 34 points a game thanks to the play at quarterback by senior, Bryce McClain. McClain (6-3, 190) is a dual threat QB, and few have performed better after three weeks of play.
On the season, McClain is 35-of-53 for 413 yards with six touchdown passes. The Mavs’ number eight also leads the team in rushing with 264 yards on 30 carries and two touchdowns.
The primary target in the passing game is senior wide receiver Devin Powell (6-3, 218) who leads the receiving corps with 15 receptions for 196 yards and four TDs.
Marvin Ridge plays their next game at home hosting Parkland High School (2-1) out of Winston-Salem.
